Our history
Acupuncture Holistic Center of New Jersey (AHCNJ) was founded in 2008 with one mission: to help people heal and stay well—naturally. By activating the body’s own healing power, we aim to reduce pain, ease suffering, and improve quality of life for every client we serve. For over a decade, we've proudly cared for the Flemington community, creating lasting results and many smiling faces along the way. In 2018, we welcomed Dr. Angela Gao as our new director, continuing our commitment to compassionate, effective holistic care.

Meet Dr. Angela Gao
Prevention is the most powerful medicine. With over 3,000 years of clinical application, Chinese medicine offers a time-tested path to lasting health and vitality.
— Dr. Angela Gao
“To cure disease after it has appeared is like digging a well when one already feels thirsty, or forging weapons after the war has already begun” - Huang Di Nei Jing.
Born into a martial arts family in China and raised in New York, Dr. Angela Gao grew up deeply connected to the principles of holistic living, health, and wellness. The foundational concepts of Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Spirit (神) in Chinese martial arts—particularly Kung Fu—share roots with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), all grounded in the ancient philosophy of Yin and Yang. Inspired by these teachings and immersed in the use of Chinese medicine from a young age, Angela set out to explore the depth of this 5,000-year-old system and to share its healing power with others.
Angela holds a Doctorate (DACM) and a Master’s degree (MSTOM) in Acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She is nationally board certified by the NCCAOM and has completed extensive clinical training at various New York clinics and hospitals, including NYU Lutheran. Under her care, patients have experienced breakthroughs in fertility, menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalances, and pain syndromes.
Angela specializes in pain management, women’s health, digestive disorders, facial rejuvenation, and common conditions such as hypertension, endocrine imbalances, allergies, and colds. Her treatments integrate acupuncture (including electro-acupuncture), herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion, and Tui-Na therapy.
Before transitioning to Chinese medicine, Angela had a successful career in fashion design. Drawing from her martial arts and holistic background, she created a contemporary women’s label focused on wellness and intentional living. Her designs were sold both internationally and domestically, including through her boutique in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Since 2013, she has also served as a faculty member at Parsons School of Design, teaching undergraduate courses.
Angela’s unique journey through martial arts, fashion, and Traditional Chinese Medicine gives her a deep, intuitive understanding of the human body. Her diverse background makes her especially skilled in palpation, needling, and the art of personalized care.
